What is an impact driver?

An impact driver is a power tool used for tightening and loosening screws and other fasteners into timber, plastic, metal and a variety of other materials. It's ideal for use on the likes of flooring, decking or fencing, where you need to secure dozens of screws in a short period. Like a drill, it works using a rotating action but it delivers higher levels of torque, which makes it much better at driving in screws, nuts and bolts.

Can you drill with an impact driver?

No, impact drivers cannot be used as drills. They look alike and they perform a similar action but they are not designed to drill holes and should not be used as such.
